What is criminal record sealing?

​​​​​This is when you file a motion with the court to seal a criminal conviction record after a case is closed and the applicable waiting period has passed.

Records for non-convictions, dismissals, no-files, successfully completed diversion programs, or deferred sentences can also be sealed by a motion if they were not already automatically sealed when the case was originally closed.

Record sealing is different from expungement and auto-sealing. It is important to note that not all records are eligible to be sealed, so it is our policy to review your full criminal record in a consultation to determine what records, if any, can be sealed.
